Good causes supported through nib employee grants program

Back

We are helping nib's employees support the community causes closest to them as part of this year's Good Cause Grants initiative.

A joint initiative of nib foundation and nib health funds, our employee nominated and voted annual grant program supports five causes across Australia and New Zealand with $5,000 grants.

From 33 nominated charities, an overwhelming 445 employees voted to help decide the final lucky recipients.

The deserving causes awarded funding support this year include:

Bear Cottage - providing care for children suffering life-limiting conditions and support for their families.

Heartfelt - giving the gift of photographic memories to families affected by premature births, stillbirths or children suffering serious illness.

Alzheimer's Australia - providing support services, education and information for people living with all types of dementia as well as their families and carers.

Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust - supporting the emergency helicopter service in New Zealand.

Almost 25 per cent of the causes employees nominated were for projects related to homelessness, indicating that this is a particular issue of concern for our people.

In an effort to support this important social cause, the inaugural wild card grant, decided by nib foundation, has been awarded to Our Backyard - Car2Home. Located in Lake Macquarie, 'Our Backyard' offers a designated private space for individuals, couples and families who are sleeping in their cars a safe place to park and sleep and helps those in need on their journey towards ending their homelessness.

We are proud to support the causes important to our employees and look forward to learning how this year's beneficiaries put their funds to good use in a bid to help our community.
