Off-field bravery wins on-field Origin dream

Back

Through our work with the Good Sports Junior program, a brave eight-year-old rugby league player, Jake Brennan, scored a once-in-a-lifetime Origin experience less than a year after being involved in a life-threatening car accident.

Jake's junior club, St Anthony's Girraween Eagles JRLFC, has provided immense support to the Brennan family over the past 11 months during their journey to recovery.

As supporters of the Good Sports Junior initiative, of which the Girraween Eagles are currently participating in, we worked with the club to give Jake the opportunity of a lifetime at ANZ Stadium ahead of the first clash in the 2016 State of Origin series.

The long-time rugby league fan took to the field as the NSW Blues mascot when his team ran on for the match. He and his family were also provided with an inner sanctum tour of ANZ Stadium which included a visit to the NSW change rooms.

It was truly an incredible experience for Jake in what has been an unbelievably challenging year and was all made possible thanks to nib's longstanding sponsorship of the NSW Blues.

Good Sports Junior works with community sporting clubs around the key themes of alcohol, tobacco, healthy eating and spectator behaviour with a specific focus on young people. With our support, the program will reach a target of 220 community sporting clubs in New South Wales and Victoria over a three-year funding period.
