Home-Start Family Services Australia
“Eat, Move, Live” A Family Wellbeing Project
NSW and VIC
Home-start is an established early intervention home visiting scheme that trains community-based volunteers to provide weekly support, mentoring and practical parenting help to disadvantaged families.
The need for the Eat, Move, Live project arose in response to concerns about the higher levels of child and adult obesity seen in low socio-economic populations and the associated health risks.
To help reverse this trend and break the cycle of family obesity, the project will develop simple resources and practical activities to assist families to increase their knowledge and skills to provide healthy and affordable meals as well as easy, fun, physical exercise for their whole family.
The program, funded by nib foundation, will be delivered by Home-Start's network of 400 volunteers who have an established relationship of trust with families in 22 regional communities in NSW and Victoria.
