Media Access Australia is devoted to increasing access to media and technology for people with disabilities.
Research has shown that the internet benefits people with disabilities by providing independent access to information and support from others in the community through social media use. However, the digital divide is threatening to exclude these communities from such access.
Media Access Australia, with support from nib foundation, is developing training resources to support the Council on the Ageing Western Australia in delivering web accessibility training to bring seniors with disabilities into the digital age. The resource kit teaches how to use a computer or mobile device with free or built-in assistive technologies.
It is hoped that through additional support and better understanding of computer technologies, the well-being of seniors with a disability will be improved thanks to their increased digital and social inclusion.
