Surf Life Saving Western Australia provides essential educational and emergency rescue services to Western Australian communities.
The organisation provides a range of lifesaving training and education programs in the Perth metropolitan area and along WA's vast coastline. However, such vital programs are currently not widely available in the remote and rural communities of the state.
With 36% of all drowning deaths occurring in rivers and streams, there is a great need to provide targeted lifesaving skills training to locals in these communities.
To help address this growing demand, nib foundation has supported a new mobile training and education unit that has been developed by Surf Life Saving Western Australia.
The unit will see Surf Life Saving WA education programs delivered to an estimated 2,000 residents in the Pilbara, Midwest and Kimberley regions.
The education programs will incorporate all members of the community and include courses in First Aid, resuscitation, sun and aquatic safety and healthy lifestyle choices, which will give communities the tools to be real lifesavers in the home, schoolyard or workplace.
