Through its early intervention work with newly-arriving Karen (Burmese) families and individuals, Foundation House has identified young people who are being significantly challenged by the settlement process and are vulnerable for a range of reasons.
As a result of their displacement, profound losses, witnessing of extreme violence and exposure to hardship, these young people are struggling to integrate in Melbourne.
Foundation House is delivering a program designed to improve the health and wellbeing of young, at-risk Karen refugees in Victoria. If the pilot proves successful, there is potential to extend the program to other communities of refugee young people, both within Victoria and nationally.
